Thesis
Today, the school of architecture is an environment of a hierarchical structure where the necessary systems of communication are developed favouring the well function of the organisation. The different elements that compose the school are linked by necessity, whereas they could always be autonomous.
During the early phase of this work, we intended to observe the role of a particular room in the Ecole Spéciale d’Architecture. Setting up a number of low-tech measuring devices, we meant to record any distinct behaviour stemming from an environment beyond the class occupation.
Interfering, repetitively, into the classroom, with various ways and means, we managed to reveal certain disorder to the class attendance.
The process execution remained secret since the strangeness of a sudden intervention gives rein to the ingeniousness of the receiver; the unsuspicious receiver, when surprised, overwhelmed by his emotions reacts instinctively.
The result reveals the existing yet unknown creativity and the richness of the initiative according to the space occupation.
The applied study of this room meant to release the obscure phenomena nested inside the collective conscience.
A string of facts – that eventually lead to the position finding of the devices –were also documented with the use of a space-time graph to conceive the diverse space-time continuum that meet in the same reality .
The architectural site is finally unfolded to a vast palimpsest.
An additional series of graphic notations was drawn in a more abstract chorographical manner.
The drawing presents the stream of consciousness of one receiver – occupant of the room – over a variety of parallel narratives created by professors, students and hidden devices. Again, with the use of a space-time graph, the scope of these drawings, entitled train of thoughts, is to draw attention to an occult dimension, vivid and surreal that environs this room.
This effervescence operates purely in this particular scale. From a wider point of view, the permeability experienced between the different elements that create the School, engender a rhythm’s rupture, a void.
Thereby, the School is transformed into an opera, where the spectacle of education unfolds. The aim of this phase is to reconsider the flash moment of the professors’ and the students’ meeting.
The final phase of the project queries the school’s perpetuation as a living organism of diverse fluid ecologies that admix.
The apotheosis of meeting marks the restive chase to constantly respond over the new dilemmas of today.
This project proposes to turn the school into a structure of work’s efficiency whose canvas is being endlessly recomposed by the initiatives that are always in evolution.
The School of Architecture becomes the terrain of its work production, while its surface is dedicated to the perpetual architectural projects – Design Units.
The pathways are the infrastructures through research, production and presentation. Students and professors will track down all necessary learning materials – and the working synthesis applied to the school; what we refer to as toolbox.
